SIOP's Vision, Mission and Goals & Donations and Bequests

Vision
No child should die of cancer.

Mission
The mission of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) is:

  1. To ensure that each child and young adult with cancer has access to state of the art treatment and care.
  2. To ensure that all involved in childhood cancer worldwide, have access to the latest progress through meetings, networking, and continuing professional development.
  3. To support those caring for children and young adults with cancer to provide the best curative and palliative therapies.
  4. To advocate for appropriate long term follow up for children and young adults after treatment for cancer.

Goals

  1. To define the essential facilities and resources for delivery of child cancer care.
  2. To help care givers develop and identify resources necessary to build adequate infrastructure for local delivery of cancer care.
  3. In recognition of the disparity of resource and access, to assist in adaptation of treatment to improve outcome regardless of location.
  4. To work with all relevant agencies to ensure uniform availability of effective and affordable anticancer and supportive care agents.
  5. To organize regional and global meetings for those involved in childhood cancer to provide a platform for education, research, and professional networking.
  6. To have over 50% of countries represented in the SIOP membership.
  7. To have over 50% of pediatric oncologists worldwide as members of SIOP.
  8. To have 50% of active members attend the annual meeting.
  9. To ensure that annual meetings are affordable to all members.
  10. To facilitate continuing professional education beyond that provided in SIOP’s meetings.
  11. To secure the Society’s financial stability.

Donations and Bequests

The Society's activities against childhood cancer are mostly paid from income made from the Annual Congresses and from the membership fees. Unfortunately this is often not enough to provide all the help that is so necessary in the battle against chilshood cancer.

SIOP is therefore very grateful for all the help they can get apart from their regular income.

Through donations SIOP can offer a lot of actual help in paediatric oncology projects in less affluent countries. At present SIOP receives some donations made by the World Health Organisation (WHO), and from private persons.

In case you wish to make a donation to SIOP, please contact the secretariat: mailto:secretariat@siop.nl.

You can also support SIOP with a bequest. In order to bequeath to SIOP you can have a statement laid down in your will which notes that after your death you bequeath, free of claims and costs, to SIOP a certain amount of money. Your notary will be able to inform you in a more detailed manner about the possibilities of bequests laid down in the terms of a will.
